You may have heard that Money is the root of all evil. Oh really .. many people believe that is what the Bible says. Actually, 1 Timothy 6:10 says For the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evil.. Money and material things alone are not the root of anything. It is the lust or love for material things and the money it takes to buy them that causes the problem. Here is what the rest of the verse in 1 Timothy 6:10-11 says Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.. And here is what Paul instructs us to do But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Before Paul tells us to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness, he says we must first flee the love of money. Material things will never bring you peach and joy. You have to be willing to flee the wrong things before you can pursue the right things, because you cannot go in both directions at once. If you are pursuing riches, and the gaining of wealth and the achievement of success have become your number one priorities, pushing everything else, including God, to the side, then you are pursuing the wrong thing. If this describes you, then I can absolutely assure you that you will never really taste the fruits of the spirit and the blessings of God. In the end, you will be a miserable wretch. A love of money and wealth my allow you to achieve what looks like prosperity and riches but you will find no joy in any of them. There are plenty of wealthy people today who have accomplished wealth and prosperity and are absolutely miserable. You need to understand that you can be eaten alive by the love of money. All of us are subject to such a temptation and such a trap. Resist listening to preachers who tell you that you are entitled to wealth and prosperity. Its a lie. You are not. God alone decides who will get riches and who will not. Anyone who does achieve wealth and prosperity do so for the glory of God. Those wise enough to realize that also realize that it comes with a considerable obligation. As a believer in God, if you are in it for the money, then you are wasting your time will never find true riches.
