You may need our help... but we need yours just as much... if not - TopicsExpress

You may need our help... but we need yours just as much... if not more! For the past few months, we have been overwhelmed with emails, phone calls and messages about animals needing to be taken in off of the streets. A dog is running loose near a round about; I found a cat under my car; Please Help, I saw two puppies near an industrial area and they are hungry and cold; There is a kitten living in my garage and you have to take it, the messages may contain different geographics, however the end request is the same... Please take this animal, You have to take this animal, you are a shelter!, You are a shelter, I cannot take it.. I already have cats or dogs at home..... Truthfully, our hearts are breaking! We are literally in tears at the amount of homeless animals on the streets... not to mention the animals that people want to rehome for one reason or another. When we started 2nd Chance in 2009, our dream was to be able to make a difference... to be able to decrease the amount of homeless animals on the streets... to take in as many as we could, get them healthy and rehome them to forever loving homes. We were sure that with our shelter, as well as QAWS, we would be able to really make a change! Today, five years later, there is really only one more physical shelter - PAWS - in Doha and a few other rescues who all, work diligently to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome. We are all non profit organizations doing the best we can with what we have. Yet sadly, it seems that the amount of homeless animals are increasing and not decreasing. Every shelter in Qatar, every rescue group, every individual, even some of the Veterinary clinics, committed to helping homeless animals is over capacity with rescues at the moment. 2nd Chance Rescue, for example, really only has room to home 120 dogs, yet we have close to 150 dogs. We board our rescue cats at Parkview Pet Center and again, we only have room for around 40, yet we are at least 20 over capacity. All of the other shelters are over capacity as well. We all need your help! We need adopters, fosters, volunteers, educators! We need people who are willing to invest in the strays they take to the shelters - by donating, by fostering the rescue they found, by posting the rescue.. .whatever it takes to help that animal. People should be asking the shelters and the clinics, What can I do to help you in helping the animal I just brought in To get angry, frustrated, upset does nothing for the animal. None of us say we cannot take the animal to be cruel... we say we cannot take the animal because TRUTHFULLY, we cannot take the animal. Please! Help us help the rescues you find! Be willing to donate, be willing to foster, contact your favorite shelter and ask what you can do to make a difference!! With every closing post, we say We Cant Do What We Do Without You! and we mean every word! For the shelters to be successful, to take in more homeless animals, to help you help a homeless animal, it really does begin with you! Will you help?
