You may not always feel it, but you never forget the wonder of Christmas as a child... From the moment the final school bell rang to let us out for Christmas Break I was excited. For me the most precious memories are of performing in our churchs Christmas play, Helping my Mom make homemade candies & cookies, Writing out a Christmas Wish List, Having our huge family Christmas Eve Dinner @ Nannys, with all of the stockings hanging on the little mantle...Waiting with my heart pounding for the announcement that it was time to pass out gifts, Singing Christmas Carols & then...The annual trip to Hillenmyers to pick out our tree...This was my most favorite tradition because they had a beautiful Nativity...Standing in front of that manger, seeing the real animals gathered around the the baby Jesus, being looked over by his loving, proud parents...The smell of pine & Earth & cattle...The scene always touched my heart & still does... We would go take a candy cane from the big decorated tree & load ours onto the car & head home to set it up, string the lights, unpack each little ornament, most of them made over the years by my brothers & I & finally...Carefully draping the silver icicles over each branch.
