You may not know it, but every time you apply your car’s brakes, - TopicsExpress

You may not know it, but every time you apply your car’s brakes, a small amount of copper debris is released onto streets, into the air and, eventually, into waterways. The copper that ends up in streams, rivers and coastal waters can be toxic to aquatic life. This includes California’s iconic and beloved salmon, some populations of which are near extinction. That’s why Sustainable Conservation introduced and passed legislation, Senate Bill 346, back in 2010 to phase out copper in vehicle brake pads sold in California. While SB 346 requires the use of copper in brake pads be reduced to no more than 0.5% by 2025, one industry partner who helped shape our legislation, Bosch, announced its brake pads would be copper-free by 2015 – well ahead of the 2025 mandate. Watch this short video of Bosch R&D Director, Dr. Mark Phipps, explaining more about this important development: https://youtube/watch?v=MZWkG0PVTdA.
