You may not know this. You may not even be bothered by what happens in this part of the world. After all, it is just to be owned physically. It is a piece of land that is a prize to be displayed in our drawing rooms. The last few days has seen 3 major natural calamities. In Kashmir, Vizag and the one you may not know, Assam & Meghalaya. Here are some facts: Kashmir: 300 dead. Huge destruction to property and infrastructure. PM goes an aerial survey and announces 1000 Crores INTERIM relief and also compensation to families of dead and injured. We also offer help to POK. PM seeks donations to PM relief fund to help Kashmir in distress. Civil Society also gets together and acts as they should. More funds to follow. Vizag: 26 people dead. Destruction to infrastructure is huge. PM goes on an aerial survey and announces 1000 Crores INTERIM relief. Serious efforts mounted by the state administration supported by central government. More funds to follow. Assam & Meghalaya: Flash floods followed by a cloud burst. More than 100 dead. 2000+ villages completely submerged. No PM aerial survey. The CM of Meghalaya travels to Delhi and could only reach up to home Minister to handover a memorandum. No relief package announced for the state. NOT EVEN AN INTERIM RELIEF. And nothing to hope for. And the people in North East continue to suffer. India is oblivious to their plight. What can we do. I want to own North East in my heart. I am contributing to the relief efforts.
