You may not want to read all this but I really want to vent to my personal Facebook friends. How can Atlantic City overcome this? Sure the coverage of Sandy put a hurtin on us but I feel this is worse. As a local who knows the tourism industry there is nothing wrong with Atlantic City FOR VISITORS. Locals deal with the local issues, job loss, taxes, crime the same stuff many citys are facing. Everything from day one of the gambling years is still here and more, the restaurants, entertainment, beach, boardwalk, casinos, shopping, beach bars, spas and I could go on and on. Heres the problem and I have no answers. Being out here in Denver / Castle Rock with family from, Arizona, Wisconsin, Utah, Colorado, Florida, Sonoma California. Many are new family, Terrys who just married my sister in law. I always introduce myself as being from Atlantic City, Not New Jersey, Not AC, not Jersey Shore but Atlantic City. This week everyone not exaggerating but EVERY FREAKIN PERSON SAID, its horrible about Atlantic City with everything going bankrupt and the job loss, is the city closed, is there anything open. That opened dialog and I explained that for visitors its awesome and an amazing place to play and you dont have to gamble. So now 55 people know and yes grass roots is important to get the word out. The Atlantic City Alliance is the marketing and PR arm and they have their hands full with this one. I wont comment on what I think they should do thats why they were hired and they have a very professional team here in AC and elsewhere. I also realize that not much of the marketing dollars if any are spent in the above states, so they only hear doom and gloom. The news has to be reported and casinos closing and job loss is absolutely news. Should the stories also report that except for a few casinos in town that closed the city is still alive and kickin and thousands are still employed? So in my opinion the story should be Casino closing, x amount of jobs lost, possible reasons and to add anything else is not news it becomes PR for the city. This blogger and the true Atlantic City supporters who love Atlantic City NOW and look forward to the new additions and will continue to post positive AC stories. Finally, we have a correspondent to my radio show in Liverpool and he sent me a text asking what the hell is going on with the closings and bankruptcies. Stay positive and enjoy all that we have to offer Please include #VivaAtlanticCity in your POSITIVE Atlantic City posts to social media.
