You may notice that I never really mock vegans. This is because I love my vegan friends as I love all my other friends, and some of the best people I know just happen to be vegan-- not because they ARE vegan, but because theyre awesome. Theres nothing wrong with making the personal choice to be vegetarian/vegan. I personally feel the meat industry is rubbish hardcore for the environment, and if you look into it, youll see what I mean. So, if I were a vegetarian, it would be for environmental ethical reasons. However, I do enjoy meat, and the killing of animals for meat doesnt bother me all that much. Unlike most people I know, I have killed animals for meat, and I do know the sadness that comes with it (theres always a little sadness-- unless you happen to be a psychopath, that is, or hunt all the freaking time because hunger sucks or whatever). Now theres a whoooole other planet of issues about making cats vegan, vegetarian dogs, veggie kids, etc, and such. Personally, even if I wanted to be vegetarian again (I was, once upon a time), my life would be incredibly difficult. Back in the days of yore, it was because of my diabetes, but now Im celiac. And poor. And, to be frank, I have no want to stop eating meat anyway. However, I would be all for replacement meat. Grown in vats without brains or some kind of gluten-free meat version that does what meat does for the body and tastes good. I mean, its calories. Food is just food. Who cares if you can see it grow fur, name it, and play fetch with it? In fact, if your criteria for meat is that it had to be a living thing with a personality and thought process that you must murder because you like tasty things, you may need to reevaluate your worldview. Sure, I do make tasty murder jokes. But theyre just jokes. JOKES. In reality, I would be perfectly fine with simulated bacon. Hell, Id probably be okay with bacon going away completely. Its just food. So long as I can survive and not get sick from eating food, why should I care what it is. Being tasty does help. It just doesnt have to be aware of taste itself in order to be tasty, if that makes sense.
