You may think that the less you eat the better off you are, but if your diet plan is making you tired you need to pay attention to what your body is telling you. CNN reported Sept. 19 that fatigue can be traced to several dietary issues, including: - Going more than 2 hours without eating: Grab a healthy snack every 2 to 4 hours to keep your blood sugar balanced. - Too much sugar for breakfast: Skip the white toast and pancakes and opt for whole grains like oatmeal containing soluble fiber, which slows absorption of sugar and fat. - Not having enough cruciferous vegetables: Eat more broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, and kale, which contain nutrients that help deliver fuel to your muscles and prevent fatigue. - Iron deficiency: If you cut red meat out of your diet, compensate with kidney beans or spinach; eat these with vitamin-C rich foods to aid absorption. - You’re not eating enough carbs: Carbs help the body burn fat, so look for complex carbs and make them half of your daily diet (plus 25 percent fat and 25 percent protein).
