You may want to give yourself a few extra minutes for travel in the morning. Nothing major, but roads may be a little slick. Here is the report from the State Emergency Operations Center: Good Afternoon, At 1:00 PM light mixed precipitation was falling in Western CT with drizzle falling across most of the state. Bands of moderate snow have developed in the Berkshires and in Southeastern NY State but not in Western CT at this time. Temperatures currently range from the mid 30s in Western CT to near 40 F in Eastern CT. The NWS has issued a flood warning for the Still River in Western CT for minor flooding for today. NW Winds are currently sustained at 10 - 20 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH at times. At 12:45 PM, CL&P and UI were reporting a total of only 35 outages across the state. Today…The stationary storm system that impacted our area yesterday is pulling colder air into our area this afternoon. The light drizzle and mix that is occurring now is forecast to continue to gradually changeover to wet snow in Western CT between now and 4:00 PM. There may be a minor to moderate impact on the afternoon rush hour in Western CT as some narrow bands of moderate snow may form during the afternoon. The exact location and timing of these bands cannot be forecast in advance. At this time the impact in the Hartford area and across the rest of the state appears that it will be minor with only wet roads. This Evening and Overnight… The precipitation across the rest of the state is forecast to changeover to wet snow from West to East between 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The light wet snow is expected to begin sticking to roads in central CT this evening as temperatures start to fall to around freezing by 9:00 PM. Road conditions in Southern and Eastern CT overnight are also expected to become slick by 3:00 AM. Towns can expect black ice and patches of wet snow on any roads that are not treated. Most treated roads should remain only wet. The impact on overnight travel is expected to be minor. Overnight accumulations are forecast to range from a trace at the coast and in Eastern CT, around an inch in the Hartford / New Haven area and up to 1 - 3” in the NW hills and Danbury area. Thursday Morning…Light snow is expected during the morning rush hour across most of the state with slick spots and a minor to locally moderate impact on travel. Temperatures are forecast to range from the upper 20’s in the NW Hills to the low 30’s in the Hartford area and mid 30’s in Southern and Eastern CT during the morning rush hour. Rest of the Day on Thursday…The light snow is forecast to gradually taper off to flurries during the day with little or no additional accumulation. Highs in the 30’s should keep most roads wet for the midday and afternoon commute. The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will continue to monitor the latest forecasts and will send out another update at 6:00 PM. Sincerely, Douglas W. Glowacki Emergency Management Program Specialist Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security
