You may wonder I would run for mayor of Gibsons, since I live across the electoral boundary line in Electoral Area F - West Howe Sound? Well, I originally moved to Gibsons Landing and planned to stay forever in my beautiful waterfront home in the Landing. I bought and reclaimed a rundown heritage property on the Gibsons Landing waterfront and turned it into a successful, year round backpackers hostel (the Wynken Blynken Nod). But in 2010, two young boys set a fire next door at Coles Marina, which spread to our property and in the biggest blaze in Gibsons history (so the brave and thoughtful GVFD lads told me) we lost everything. It took me some time to get back on my feet, as everything I had was tied up in the Wynken Blynken Nod. Not just my money and my business/job, but my dreams and plans for the future too. In 2012, we moved just outside the town boundary on the other side of Gibsons Creek and I am now in the process of investing in property in the Town again - which is really quite exciting. I want you to know that regardless of what side of the electoral boundary line I sleep on, Gibsons is my community. This is where I have raised my son, invested my heart and time and money, met and been mentored by some of the most amazing people I have ever known. I want my grandchildren to have the chance to run free on the beach like my son did, to drink pure water and to know their neighbours. I love Gibsons and I will work hard to protect and enhance the values we share in this wonderful place we call home. These pictures are more than a little trip down memory lane, they are also an example of my attempts as a property owner and small business proprietor, to protect and enhance the village scale, charm and character of Gibsons landing. My family has had the privilege of enjoying a spectacular way of life in Gibsons. If you elect me as your mayor, I will work hard to make sure that our jewel of a harbour is not sold out and urbanized for wealthy part-time condo owners who do not contribute to our community life and that ALL our families have the opportunity to enjoy a spectacular way of life in Gibsons.
