You meet up with an old friend for dinner. The friend puts his phone away and says hes ready to give you his undivided attention. After dinner, you are going to stroll the High Line together but the friend gets an important email that demands immediate attention. So you fiddle with your own phone for 5 minutes. Then the friend tells you that he may have to stop several more times to take emails. You suggest that you wrap up the night so friend can focus on emails & also because you really dont want to hang out while hes taking emails. Friend calls you an impossible bitter middle age queen. You part ways thinking that if its too much to ask a friend to hold off emails for 2 hours at night while youre together, then, well, youll wear your bitter middle-age queen moniker with pride. And try to be present with friends.
