You might explore the world of relationships, careers, money, possessions but that only seems to bring temporary relief; then we may look into religion, spiritual and therapeutic groups but these too can ultimately fail to satisfy. In this utter failure to find a solution there may be a readiness to look in an entirely new way: to question the very basis upon which all these other forms of seeking are built. We see how reality is interpreted via a conceptual lens of thinking; words, numbers, objects, time and space are all wonderfully deep and powerful ideas with which we define our experience. However it seems that we have forgotten that these concepts are an interpretation of reality and now believe them to be the definition of the way it is. In taking on these beliefs we simultaneously buy into the fundamental concept: that what we are is a limited, separate, inside self, that makes its way through a separate, outside world. But without our ideas how can we explore this fundamental belief? All we need is our raw, first-hand, uninterpreted experience. When we look in this way, like children, we find our actual experience to be very different from our interpretation; we see how our rigidly held assumptions about who we are simply don’t stand up. For many this can precipitate a huge amount of fear: fear of the unknown, fear of losing control, fear of annihilation. But in courageously feeling the intensity of those energies, in not turning away from our vulnerability, it’s only the conviction that we are isolated and limited that falls apart, revealing the incomprehensible truth of our being, the lifeblood of all experiencing, the home for which we have always longed. We never where limited, separate and isolated, but always life itself: every sound, sensation, colour and texture, the bliss, the pain, the triumphs and the heartaches, the earth, the sky and everything in between, the path, the teacher, the seeking, the finding, the entire rich play of experience all made out of oneself, the boundless fabric of life. Nothing was ever lost, there was never anything to find, just a misunderstanding to see through. This is the message of Non-Duality, or more commonly known as the message of freedom. And this is not the end of the story but only just the beginning. As that recognition starts to infuse our daily experience we naturally, effortlessly begin to act from love over fear, openness over defensiveness, tenderness over hardness, ever enriching, ever deepening, ever transforming our character, our relationships, our lives. In living closer than intimate, with all that is, we live as Love.
