You must realize that we all have people who feel like enemies. Those who feel like they are always against us or out for us, what do you do? Jesus says you start by praying, praying for those who persecute you. And not just, Oh, I need to pray? I can pray, but do you understand how hard it is to really pray when youre really angry? Youre really hurt, and youve really been wronged, and you come before God almighty and you say, I want you to bless them. Because you have the love of God shed abroad in your hearts you say, I am hurt, Im harassed, Im harmed, Ive been embarrassed, but Lord, I want you to help them and I want you to heal them and I want them to be happy and I want them to be blessed. Thats a profound work of the spirit, and it only comes from knowing what God has done for us while we were yet enemies. He loved us, he sent his son to die for us, he blessed us and said, You have not done anything to deserve it, but because I choose to, I love you. So we do the same for our enemies, for our opponents, for all who hurt us. Not only do we not strike back, we love back, and we trust ourselves to the one who judges justly. - Kevin DeYoung
