You see more and more churches having revivals of their own making. They rent equipment, provide food and entertainment to bring the unchurched in. I too had that strategy at the beginning. But after many sleepless nights the Lord had enough mercy to give me a wake-up call. You cannot offer trinkets and attractions as a way to make new converts. Because just like the honeymoon period in a relationship comes to an end...so will the shine and fun of your outreach. And when the ATTRACTION goes away so will the ATTRACTED. Listen, I too love to bless the community but call it what it is...a block party. The only person that is going to fill your church is the Holy Spirit. So throw your marketing plans out the window...throw away the exercise class - dont try to schedule a revival (at least not one that you hope the Holy Spirit is going to move in) and instead do what has worked since the beginning of the church: - Pray (more prayer meetings than small groups, social gatherings, bounce houses and exercise classes) - Preach the TRUTH in LOVE and power (regardless of consequence) - Pray some more and teach your people to pray Remember this - all those attractions they can get in any number of places without the Holy Spirit. The only thing that sets you apart and they can get no other place than through Christ Jesus is salvation...THAT MY FRIENDS IS THE ONLY ATTRACTION THAT LAST...FIRE FROM ON HIGH!
