You should feel proud. Your Islands Achievement this Christmas The fantastic support so many Islanders give to the Hayling Island Lions Club meant that this year well over £8000 was spent trying to give some comfort and pleasure to people who find living difficult, very often through no fault of their own. Most of the recipients were senior citizens or youngsters, sometimes lonely or suffering from a disadvantage when knowing that “We care” is in itself helpful. So on your behalf below are some of those who we believe felt the blessing of Christmas giving. DURING DECEMBER We identified 58 children on our island who without our support may not have received a present at Christmas and these came from 48 families. All received a present.Six of these families had little Christmas food and received hampers On our island there are six groups who regularly meet helping our senior citizens by one means or another. Each was given monies to provide a Christmas Lunch We hired the Hayling Theatre and Hiads provided a pantomime for children and their carers who otherwise were unlikely to see a show The pupils at the Hayling College fed, waited upon and entertained 35 Senior Citizens to a Christmas lunch funded by Lions Lions On Christmas Day itself a group of islanders cooked and waited upon elderly people who were living alone giving them a Christmas dinner, funded by Lions Five local Associations who during the year make island life more pleasurable in one way or another. All helped the Lion’s club with Santas Sleigh collections over Christmas, benefiting from a donation to their funds The Motto of the International Association of Lions Clubs is “WE SERVE”.
