You should no longer be surprised that you data is not just yours anymore: You may have heard that most, if not all, the newer smart phones can be accessed by various government and private groups. They can do this in some cases whether the phone is even on, in some cases they can turn them on, use you camera your microphone, access all your data, anytime they want. Did you know that before smart phones, they could and did, access your internet connected computer? Yes, long before smartphones, knowledgeable technicians, be they government or private, could access your data and your internet connected devices (ie: camera or microphones), no matter what precautions you were taking. In the case of a personal computer, there are serious limits to anyone being able to remotely turn on a computer, if it is truly off, and not just in sleep mode. Today we make it easier by using cloud storage and by using various sync software’s to keep our devices synchronized to each other and for backup purposes. This “always on” cloud storage is readily available to the privileged technicians who may or may not work for the government (USA or otherwise). Most every business or consumer device, automobile, airplane, ship (or similar), does in fact have an Internet Protocol (ip) number(s), that number is somewhat similar to a phone number. This ip number (ie: 147.88.209.201) is how each device connected to the network (be it internet connected or not), this is how an ip based device can establish communications between other devices, anywhere on earth and beyond. Note: there are other communication protocols that can be used on networks, but at this time, the ip protocol (versions 4 and 6) are the only protocols routed onto the internet. This message is not intended to cover, in any depth, the many other ip based devices that very talented technicians (intended and unintended), have ready access to, for example you home security system. In summary, being a connected society, means your devices (thus your data), are readily accessible to the many talented technicians and some analysts, who may or may not have the active or passive support of the government(s).
