You tell it, Ms Janet. When my university had me shift to designing and teaching courses online, such as introduction to theater and other humanities and writing stuff, the challenge was initially thrilling, but it didnt take long to see that I was participating in the beginning of the end. Is it really possible to teach tailoring? or dance? or theater? or studio arts online? Good luck with that. It was awful. It was a shitty experience and I think the students thought so, too. One more stupid hoop to jump through for cash-strapped commuters and stay-at-home moms. Online interactions a paltry substitute for the real. And Ms. Napolitano is correct. We desperately need the live, social, body-to-body interaction for learning and humanizing, whether its arts, economics, or philosophy. I have survived a very interesting time in our history and have emerged, reinvented.
