"You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ - TopicsExpress

"You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." 2 Timothy 2:1-2 We must always remember that the Bible was written with two audiences in mind: 1) The original recipients, and 2) Future believers. Paul is not just addressing Timothy here, but all Christians as well. First, Paul encourages us to be "strong in the grace of Jesus Christ," which is to say, be faithful, never give up, keep pressing forward. Secondly, he encourages us to invest our lives in the lives of other believers as well. He told Timothy to commit what he had learned from Paul to faithful men. Likewise, we have the responsibility of making disciples. Leading someone to Christ is only the first step in making a disciple. To truly make disciples we must see them through the process of baptism and church membership, and teach them to observe all things that the Lord has commanded us through His Word. Notice in the verse above that the cycle of making disciples never ends, "commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." The Great Commandment is not fulfilled until we teach disciples how to go make disciples themselves, then and only then is the circle complete. Dear Lord, help us to be disciples by making disciples, amen.
