You walk into a FedEx, pay $30 and have a package containing fragile goods delivered 3,000 miles away the next day. The staff is friendly, competent and knowledgeable about their products. The facility is efficiently designed and a wide variety of services are offered. Payment and processing are simple and the total time from walking in the door and out is less than five minutes. The service offered is second to none. The next week, you realize you can ship a package for a bit cheaper at the USPS. You walk into a post office, wait ten minutes to speak to a worker, are told you used the wrong box and are instructed to purchase the correct one. After grabbing one off the shelf, you get back in line and wait another ten minutes. The staff is rude, incompetent and ignorant of the very services they offer. Despite having grabbed the correct box, you are now told you need to fill out a form and get back in line. Irate at the complete lack of customer service and competency, you take your package and money to FedEx. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is an example of how the profit motive and competition spawn infinitely superior service than the bloated, bureaucratic nightmare that is the government.
