You want a sampling of some of the power our responses have generated on the electronic petition to those that have signed it to keep our values of tradition alive - and not toss it to the side like trash? See some samples below: We are right - and they are wrong. So you are aware - Mario Scavello has absolutely signed on board to help us if possible and has signed the petition! YOU GO MARIO! No word - yet - from Rep Rosemary Brown - I sent her an invite to our site.... I still hope, as an ESHS alumni, she signs on too in helping us and respecting our local area town tradition for the area local people. ----------------------------------- I grew up a Cavalier and still believe in the tradition of the Turkey Day Game. I come to the Poconos for Thanksgiving and if unable to attend the game I watch it on TV. I could write a book on why we should keep the game on Thanksgiving. I am 54 years old and still have the pride of the Purple & the White! Many of us bleed either Pirple or Maroon! Dont take our tradition away! CHALFONT, PA 20 days ago Like 1 This game has been a tradition for 70 years. It means as much to people from Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg as the Army-Navy game means to the military. EAST STROUDSBURG, PA 20 days ago Like 1 Traditions are a dying breed. The Thanksgiving game tradition has brought families and friends together for many years in our community. Our community continues to become more and more diverse, but traditions, like this, help hold it together. What a huge disservice to our students, athletes, families and the community as a whole to eliminate it. EAST STROUDSBURG, PA 20 days ago Like 1 I believe it teaches kids the importance of community spirit. EAST STROUDSBURG, PA 20 days ago Like 1 This is a community tradition and was cancelled without community awareness. The Turkey Day game needs to be reinstated. PHOENIX, AZ 21 days ago Like 1 Graduated from the ESHS Class of 1989 and went every year to TD being in Marching Band and walked home 1987 and 1988 from Stroudsburg to East burg from winning the little brown jug two years in a row! STROUDSBURG, PA 21 days ago Like 1 I was born and raised in Stbg, I am an alumni, my children are alumni. You all talk about teaching our children about having roots. The Turkey Day game is not only the best tradition, it shows home town pride, giving roots to those that stayed in the community all their life but give those that grew wings a chance to come home to continue with their roots and teach it to the next generations. Most of the are High School reunions take place around this time as most alumni come home to visit and par take in all the Thanksgiving festivities our community offers. The game is truly one of the things that has kept our community as a small town where everyone knows everyone else. It would be greatly disappointing if that feeling left. It would just make us just another town. Please reconsider for the sake of all future generations and keep the tradition alive!!!!!!...... SCOTTS VALLEY, CA 21 days ago Like 1 Grew up in East Stroudsburg and was a part of this tradition!! This is important rivalry that is innocent fun!!! CAMP HILL, PA 21 days ago Like 1 My home pride tradition. T-day is all about Eastburg and Stbg. The bands marching together, the communities joining together to show their hometown pride. This county needs more of that not less. EAST STROUDSBURG, PA 21 days ago Like 1 I lived on Elizabeth St. since the day I was born. I went to Eastburg from K-ESU. This game is an institution and we are slower losing the identity of this area. This game is part of that. East Stroudsburg is my alma mater and I am proud to be a Cavalier. WILMINGTON, NC 21 days ago Like 1 Long time resident of ES my dad started ESYA and I believe in traditions! Both of my brothers played football with Jim Knowles being a co-captain. Sometimes traditions need to stand strong in a community regardless of others intents.... This is the case here. STROUDSBURG, PA 21 days ago Like 1 Its tradition , you dont see them cancelling the easton/p burg game NEW CASTLE, DE 21 days ago Like 1 It is important because it has ALWAYS been the tradition on Thanksgiving day between the two towns and it should stay that way. The people that move here should not be able to change our traditions just because it does not suit their needs!!! karen cruz EAST STROUDSBURG, PA 21 days ago Like 1 It os an annual county tradition that you are robbing future generations from enjoying Beth DePue ALEXANDRIA, VA about 6 hours ago Like 0 Loved returning to see old classmates and the cheering to see which home team won!! EAST STROUDSBURG, PA 9 days ago Like 0 This is a game I went to as a child with my father and grandfather. My son started playing football at the age of 5 and could not wait to play in the Turkey day game. Now he is a freshman and there is no more game. It just breaks my heart. It is something that brings east burg and Stroudsburg together every year. EAST STROUDSBURG, PA 10 days ago Like 0 Tradition NC 10 days ago Like 0 As a class 93 alum, i remember TURKEY DAY well. For i was in the ESHS marching band. And the best part about it was the pep rally and bon fire right before. It brought not only EMENCE school spirit. But also managed to pull the majority of the student body together, be it only for that one week. Please dont let it slip away like dust in the wind!
