My friend, Cat Fever is a veteran, and fought for our freedom, and still suffers from injuries from war. Last week several NYPD officers willfully violated his rights that he fought so hard to protect. With a car full of groceries, for no reason, he was stopped, and his papers were demanded by New York Police. He refused, citing his rights, and he was thrown in jail. Their purpose was a ROUTINE CHECK POINT EVERY THREE CARS. If we allow this to continue we are heading for some really dark times. I asked them if they were currently conducting a crime investigation – They said they were not. I agree with him 1 million percent, and am proud that he did it ! Now he has to fight this battle in court. It is easy to turn your heads when it does not happen to you. DO you like this routine? Imagine the different scenarios that occur in your life while in transit, and some guy in uniform thinks he has the right to demand you show him your papers!? This is NOT FREEDOM, and IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!! Do you feel intimidated? The police are paid by tax dollars, and are to to serve, and protect. I see this as harassment. For the record, I do not dislike police officers, and I know some are very decent, but the system has changed, and they are often asked to do things that they should not be asked to do. Police brutes should be removed, and the decent cops should have a better outlet to report without being stigmatized as rats. It is backward thinking that anyone should feel that they should keep quiet when they witness repeated abuse by another officer. Pride in doing the right thing should be paramount.
