You were totally out of it today, Martha. Not your usual self at all. You looked deeply hurt. You are so used to people telling you what you like to hear. Millions writing two-word comments telling you how beautiful you are and how exciting you are. And you have gotten so used to it. So used to all the positive attention. So accustomed to having men on their knees kissing your feet. A princess. The Queen of Fox. So when someone gives it to you straight, you are totally incapable of handling it. To be told the truth is a traumatic experience for you. Well, I do apologize for my comment yesterday. I was operating under the assumption that someone in your lofty position, pretty much on top of the world, is so well adjusted psychologically that you can handle remarks that are somewhat critical of you. But you are not accustomed to having anyone criticize you. Everything you hear is positive. How pretty you are. How gorgeous you are. But sometimes you need to face reality. Today you looked like you were on the verge of a deep depression. Almost suicidal. It is very clear that I was wrong to be so honest with you. It seemed to me that you have high self-esteem and that you can handle any kind of criticism. But that, apparently, is not true. You are so fragile and so vulnerable. Not a big girl like I thought, but a little girl who is so unsure of herself. And so frightened by the slightest hint of disapproval. So I apologize again. It is amazing how a woman can achieve the most elevated status and still be so insecure and so fragile. You were badly hurt by what I said and it shows. It pains me deeply. I hope very much that you will have completely recovered by tomorrow. It will make my weekend a lot more enjoyable.
