You will NOT believe the conversation I overheard in a charity shop. Three elderly people were generally moaning about Drs and NHS … anyway as I pottered about looking for fancy dress … the moaning snowballed, until in the end I HAD to butt in and say, “You moan now, wait till its gone, then youll really have something to moan about!” The reply (not to me to one of the others as though I didnt exist) quote “Oh well at least might stop all the bloody foreigners coming here for free treatment!” I was in total shock!!! Thought Oh my god, is this what some people think? I asked “So in your life youve never seen a Dr or had any treatment?” “Yes but weve paid in” my reply “and now youd rather it be scrapped, so when next ill will just suffer and die?” They ignored me muttering “oh charming” and “Can never get to see a bloody Dr anyway,etc” For my own sanity/risk of causing a scene/getting arrested, I had to leave! I couldnt believe 3 OAPs that have received NHS treatment all their lives, and probably only still here because of it, could have such disregard for it. How do we change people like that to appreciate it??
