Youd think Id broke into a local animal shelter and kidnapped (or cat-napped) a mother kitten and her baby kittens and made a Youtube video of me placing them into a burlap bag and throwing them into a river and killing them all. Or, maybe worse! What was my crime, you ask? I seemed to have inadvertently liked a comment on facebook by a female politician in Texas by the name of Wendy Davis. Ive received scads of emails taking me to task for this womans horrible-ness and worse they start, Im confused...I thought you were a good loyal Republican...And yet youve liked a comment of Wendy Daviss from Texas a very liberal democrat... Let me set a few other things straight here. One is kind of funny and the others just my life. I wear reading glasses! I know I might look twenty-one but when my make up and acting clothes are taken off Im much older in real life (possibly laugh here!). That means at times I do things without my glasses and tho hard to admit: Im human and make mistakes that a rushed lifestyle affords us all. Im sure a more reasonable people would understand that the consistency of a persons life is much more important than an occasional moment of inconsistency. I dont know one thing of substance of Wendy Davis and dont think it was intentional on my part. Although, Ive often been cited as publicly saying I support more women in leadership at church, colleges, in legislatures, and all walks of life. I think women make great leaders when given the opportunity. Now about me being a loyal Republican. I probably interact with more local and statewide and some national politicians and Republican leaders than most here would even imagine. Very few are fully aware of my political activities, privately. I am clearly right of center, politically, Republican, but not as far to the right as some are - when I think they lose their critical thinking skills and forget necessary things to maintain a good republic. We each can be what we choose to be in a populous Republic thats somewhat free - for now. Have I ever voted for a non-Republican? A few times I had first-hand knowledge of a Republican not being qualified or deeply morally flawed and I didnt support that Republican. Low character or moral bankruptcy dont get my vote! And never will! Without explanation on my part. Yet my associations and friendships cross all socio-economic, political, religious and cultural boundaries! Big-time. And make a Untied Nations registry look bland. Just last fall two of my friends that are long-time gay invited me to their grand opening of an antique gallery in the upstate of South Carolina and I went with a few friends and partied until 3:00 a.m. and ended at Dennys eating brownie delights, and laughing til when were falling sideways out of your chairs, only to get up at 8:00 a.m. the next morning for the big day. I actually spent the night in their house. Think of the scandal! And Im a deacon at a large Charleston Presbyterian Church. Im surprised I wasnt burnt at the stake! I have gay friends, liberal friends, weird friends, lesbian friends, wako friends, ultra conservative friends, tree-huggers, bicyclists, ministers, cynics, very wealthy, really poor, lots of middle class friends, friends that cant keep jobs, friends that are every spectrum imagined - yet I refuse to associate with people that abuse other people (in any way) or abuse nature or animals (in any way, or to my knowledge). And, lots of common friends, like me. Mark Twain said, God must love the common man because he made so many of them. I agree. You would only hope one day you become one of my close friends. I once had a friend get really suddenly sick and his spouse called me from the Washington, D.C. area. I got in my car late at night and drove 9 hours to the hospital and found him and some hospital worker said, You cant see him at this hour! I placed my hand on his chest and moved him out of my way, by force, and replied, I dont think Im going to accept your answer, respectfully, after driving nine hours to see my close friend and moved him out of my way. I thought Id be hauled off to jail but my respectful persistence must have gained him my respect and nothing happened and I saw my friend as I intended to. I might mostly represent and support Republican candidates and causes: but I love people! Of all types. Im imitating someone who lived a very similar lifestyle a long-long time ago. I suggest you do the same! And dont rush to summary judgments or throw stones. Its been a rough couple of months (and I never complain and always wear a smile!). Ive lost three people I cared about, Jim Harper of Charleston to cancer (Id often visit him in Roper Hospital with cancer and sit and we were longtime friends regardless) , my grandmother Nalley and Boyd Mitchell (a family I lived with for less than two years in high school) - and apparently Ive lost my girlfriend because in trying to help my family and mother grieve I fell short of perfection in my responsibilities of being a good boyfriend and didnt have the time halfway across the country to keep up with phone calls as regularly. I even brought my mother back with me for a couple weeks to cheer her up, during her grieving process. So back off, unless youre looking for a fight. And if you dont think I cant fight, dont make the mistake (in faulty logic) that kind people cant be unkind! Enough said, Michael Dennis
