Youll have heard about the shark culling (killing) in WA on TV/media. This cartoon is apt for the situation as despite nation-wide protests, tens of thousands of signature petitions, science against it, etc. it appears to be going ahead. Its apt because it reflects life - not just with climate but sharks any many other things which are happening regardless of facts or science. Anyone that thinks that Minister Hunt had nothing to do with the shark killing decision is mistaken - he approved it by exempting it from federal environment protection laws, without any kind of assessment. Sharks are an apex predator and as such extremely important in the eco-system, yet their numbers world-wide are declining because we are killing them for food, fins, etc. Great Whites are supposedly protected under our environment laws, so much for that! Marine biologists and experts are telling us that killing larger sharks will not solve the problem> It is simple really - When we go for a swim, or surf or boating - we enter their domain and naturally have to be more aware and cautious and accept or minimise the risks through our own bahaviour. Humans have certainly killed more sharks than vice versa, whatever you think about it. This latest decision is another fail for our newest environment Minister who is sadly fast getting the reputation as Minister against environment.
