Youll have to excuse me if I come home and dont feel like its a Merry Christmas. You see I went to work today, this Christmas Day. We cannot have holiday hours and be home after we close nor be home with our family on this, this Christmas Day. I went to work today like everyday, but today as many of Christmas Days past I have bared witness to other families tragic, traumatic and horrifying life changing events. Ive seen Mom and Dad screaming and crying as they awoke to find their newborn dead, brothers and sisters holding their Mother while we feverishly work by the Christmas Tree to revive her husband of 50 years that collapsed to the floor pulseless. Ive sat in the car holding C-spine on the best friend while fire crews are trying to extricate the deceased from the drivers side after they were hit by someone to intoxicated to drive but chose to do so anyway. Ive had to look into the eyes of family and apologize that their loved ones chose this Christmas Day to take their life, leaving their children without a father. This is Christmas Day, a day of celebration, joy and the gift of giving.. So youll have to excuse me when I walk in the door and see you my family, sitting there oh so excitedly right by the Christmas Tree, for what Ive seen sadly is not so much joy to the world.
