Your 2013 Consumer Confidence Report is available online at amwater/wvaw/water-quality-and-stewardship/water-quality-reports.html. Results published in these CCRs indicated excellent water quality and perfect regulatory compliance in 2013 in every one of our service districts across the state, which serve approximately one in three West Virginians. A CCR is an annual performance measure of the quality of water supplied by West Virginia American Water against the compliance standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and West Virginia Bureau for Public Health (WVBPH). The report describes drinking water sources, testing conducted on the water, substances detected, and the levels of those substances. According to 2013 USEPA and WVBPH data: • West Virginia American Water performed 128 times better than the average drinking water system in West Virginia for compliance with regulations. • There were almost 4,800 drinking water Notices of Violation (NOVs) issued to community drinking water systems in West Virginia, and over 250 community drinking water systems in West Virginia received at least one NOV. None of West Virginia American Water’s systems received a drinking water NOV. • Nationally, just over 400 surface water treatment plants are part of the EPAs Partnership for Safe Water Program – a voluntary effort that is designed to increase protection against microbial contamination through treatment optimization. All nine West Virginia American Water surface water treatment plants are part of this program. • Five West Virginia American Water plants (Bluestone, Huntington, Kanawha Valley, New River and Weston) tied for the “number 1” ranking out of 132 conventional surface water treatment plants in the WVBPH’s annual Area Wide Optimization Program. This program is designed to help water systems optimize their existing treatment processes in an effort to increase public health protection. The other four company plants scored well within the top tier “low risk” category. As West Virginia American Water has demonstrated for almost 130 years, our company and its employees care about the water in our communities. These reports demonstrate our delivery of water to our customers in 2013 that is of better quality than required by state and federal standards.
