Your Arms Too Short to Box with God is a Broadway musical based on the Biblical Book of Matthew. Ive never seen the musical, but Ive also never forgotten that catchy title. When I read the rhetorical question of the Psalmist Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against His anointed... (Psalm 2:1-2) I thought of the title of that Broadway musical. I love the tone of the Psalmist in the 2nd division of the Psalm. The Psalmist is confident that he serves a Great God. He is unapologetic that his God is the Great King and is above all gods. And the Psalmist is incredulous that ANY earthly king would ever dare strategize and conspire against God. Its silly to fight God. Saul of Tarsus tried it for a while. That is, until God blinded him and knocked him to the ground (Acts 9:1-4). Your arms [are] too short to box with God! You cant fight Him ... and win! So quit fighting Him. Stop resisting Him. Come on and comply with His commandments. Let go of your agenda and adopt His. Quit running to Tarshish when He commissioned you to preach to Ninevah. You cant hide from Him. You cant escape Him. And if you fight Him, you will not be victorious. Why not just surrender to Him? But theres more. You who have been baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are anointed. O yes! Jesus Christ is our elder Brother, God is our Father and we are our Heavenly Fathers children. The Holy Spirit Who was given to the Church since Pentecost means that you too are anointed. Psalm 105:15: ...Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. Psalm 27:1: The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? They couldnt kill Jesus. No man took His life; He laid it down. And they cant destroy you either! Somebody ought to create a sign that sold-out born-again converted Christians can hang in their windows: Mess With Me at Your Own Risk: I am the Lords Anointed. Dont even worry about your enemies. Dont let your haters cause you to lose a bit of sleep. You dont need to watch your back because Gods got your back. Blessed are ALL they that put their trust in Him (Psalm 2:12). Dont fight God; just trust Him. Hes got you!
