Your Highest Values. Our most primal instincts are to Eat, Sleep, - TopicsExpress

Your Highest Values. Our most primal instincts are to Eat, Sleep, Mate, and Defend. These are very automatic to most of us, meaning, we dont wake up and say...dont forget to eat....or remember if you get tired you should sleep...or dont forget if someone tries to take my child I should react. These instincts just happen. 10,000 years ago these 4 things were our sole purpose. We did not have new restaurants, ski houses, concerts, clubs...etc to distract us. Today we live in a world where complacency is commonplace. We no longer hunt for breakfast....we drive through. We no longer wake with the sun and sleep when its dark....we take power naps and wake to alarms and traffic and stress. We no longer mate to solely procreate instead.....well, Ill leave it at that. Lastly, we pretty much no longer defend anything. This year I decided to make some changes to my life. Instead of doing what everyone else wants me to do...be it my parents, friends, clients, relationships...etc. I have decided to let my highest values steer my actions. I believe that with maturity comes confidence. This confidence is knowing what I believe in, what I value and making a plan to protect or defend my highest values. Knowing your highest values is hard, eye-opening, painful and sometimes outright shocking. I promise you that once you come to terms with what they are you will be happier with your choices in life. Your purpose will become clear again. You will be confident in your actions and things will get done. As part of an eye opening exercise I want you take some time today and think about what you value the most in your life. I dont want to lead you on this one but it could be family, or bicycle riding, or free time, or travel. Take the day to think about this. You may know right away what this is or it may take some thinking. Write it down or even email it to me. Tomorrow I am going to give you a brief questionnaire which will help us to see where our priorities truly lie. This can be truly eye opening and even a bit scary. Are you excited? I am. -Coach Mike, C.S.C.S Owner-CrossFit Woburn
