Colossians 1:8-10 Amplified Bible (AMP) 8 Also he has informed us of your love in the [Holy] Spirit. 9 For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [[a]special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the [b]full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [[c]in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things— 10 That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and [d]desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, [e]acquaintance, and recognition]. Verse 8, look at verse 8. Our love for the Holy Spirit, thats our love of God. Thats not going to church buildings. Thats not people liking your Easter dress. That is commending you on your love of the Spirit of God. This is where we begin, where is your love of God? I can talk to you about the next verses, but if you aint got this one, the next ones dont matter. Lip serve, look right to men, love of God dont cut it. Do you have that love of God? That allows people to say whatever they want and you know it dont have nothing to do with God or you? See thats the kind of love of the Holy Spirit, you got to have. Because if your not wrong about something right now, right this minute, you will be soon. And some person that knows nothing at all about God will be standing there to tell you all about God, when youre wrong. Now dont get it twisted, this same person is telling you how wrong you are when youre right. But isnt it a whole lot easier to have faith, when you know youre right? But you see, these kinds of people are trying to tear away at your love for God, when youre right and when youre wrong. To them it doesnt matter, they just want you in the same quagmire their in and going to hell along with them. Now thats blunt, but thats the truth. Doubt me? Then why does the world have the expression, misery loves company.? Why is it that man is like that? I could give you lots of opinions, but basically the repeated opinion of the Bible is that man is right in mans eyes. And man doesnt have a problem with telling God, Hes wrong to look right. Verse 9, For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [[a]special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the [b]full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [[c]in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things— When is the last time that you walked into a religious church and your love of God was enough? Thats a legitimate question. When was the last time that your love of God had someone praying that God give you knowledge? Now Im not talking about them trying to impregnate their knowledge on you of the way they think it is. Not them indoctrinating you into their church building? Have you ever had anyone just want God to let you know about God? Thats what the verses are telling us to do. The verse is not telling us, to pray that youre Catholic or to pray that you are Baptist, we cant pray that youre Pentecostal, we can pray that youre seventh day is the same as mine. We cannot even pray that you are a Pentecostal Methodist, whatever that is? We are to pray that your knowledge in God increases, due to your love of God. How about that for a new idea, in a new age? Amen? Anybody ever have that happen to them, in a modern church? Bear in mind, church doctrine dont count, knowledge of God does. Went to a Baptist church once, one of the junior pastors there, found out I was Pentecostal and for whatever reason, Ill never know why, he thought the Assemblies of God, whisk you away to be indoctrinated into a cult, if you accepted Jesus. And he went to great lengths to explain to me how his Baptist church didnt do this. As being that I had not saw it before, being a young Christian and all, rather than tell this pastor that the Assemblies of God, didnt do that either, I just told the pastor, OK. The last Sunday that I went to that church, this nice little Baptist church, one man stood up to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, four members of the church stood up and took him away into another room to indoctrinate him into the Baptists. Struck me kind of odd that this Baptist preacher, accused the Assemblies of God, of doing the very things he does. And I made sure my butt, and my sons butt, was never in that cult again. Now dont get me wrong, I did asked about this odd practice . And it was explained to me that they needed to be educated. There was no Prayer to God to give them Knowledge. There was a need to give only the knowledge they wanted. As I said; I could not get away fast enough. As you should be, in one of those places. Can we that believe, let the teacher God sent teach? God from God time? People want God not your religion. If they are in the wrong; God will tell them. God has been talking to man since Adam. God knows our languages, He made them all. Will it mean they will not get things wrong? You did. After all verse 10 is what we should be working for, not men saying we are right and patting us on the back. 10 That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and [d]desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, [e]acquaintance, and recognition]. What good in God would it have done me to turn from God and follow that cult? None! I would only have dammed me and maybe my son as well. See man wants to ban together, groups look good to man. Not to God. God is looking right at you about you, right at me about me. In closing, keep one another in prayer so that each one of you can gain knowledge to help you in your walk with Christ. We will have struggles from time to time, and yes even some times fall short, but without knowledge of Him, this only exacerbates the matter. We must continue our studies and our prayer for one another, this not only helps us, and knowing cults false doctrines, but it also helps us in helping others and helps us to be more pleasing to Him.
