Your Opinion does not matter!!! This has been the reoccuring - TopicsExpress

Your Opinion does not matter!!! This has been the reoccuring message over the last couple of weeks. Your opinion does not matter, especially if it goes against what is called the good ole boy system. During the most recent public discussion of the proposed Main Street project, there were several people who gained the courage to speak publically about their concerns with the size and scope of this project. People completed research, prepared statements, and were heard at public meetings. The outcome? Well, as expected, their opinions were deemed worthless by elected and apponted officials. Not only were their opinions dismissed, but their very appearance at the meetings were denegraded. In the coverage of the meeting by the VSC, one person was not even referenced as concerned citizen. Instead, the reporter referenced them as “disgruntled.” How is that for objective reporting? It is sadly ironic, and insulting, that on the opinion page of the paper, printed six days a week, the following quote from Abraham Lincoln is found at the top of the page: “Let the people know the facts and the country will be saved.” That is a great quote, but not for the VSC. The facts seem to be the last thing that paper wants to report. In the same issue, Vincennes Councilman Duane Chatting was quoted as saying, “The City Council, he argued, represents far more people than sitting in the audience.” Well, that is true, but where were the other people? Were they at the meeting? Was it not important? Apparently, it was important enough for about a half dozen people to screw up the courage to appear and speak at a public meeting. Your opinion does not matter, unless you agree with me... I will not go into details about the recent challenge to a candidate for the Knox County Prosecuters office, as that has played out. Good evidence was presented, but it appears these complaints were filed too late to be of any revelance, agree or disagree. What stood out in my mind, however, was the response from this candidate. The high road should have been taken. Something to the effect of saying “due process was completed, and I am glad this issue is behind me”, would have been the appropriate thing to say. Instead, personal attacks followed. The people who had the courage to speak out were instead called crazy. How dare anyone ever show any opposition or concern! Your opinon does not matter, unless you agree with me... In last Sundays VSC editorial, (again located under the quote: “Let the people know the facts and the country be saved”, Greene County Gayle took turn to bash those who were opposed to the Main Street project. “Show of support would have been nice” was the title to the editorial, in which Greene County Gayle lamented the fact that people stood in opposition to the continued efforts of elected and apponted officials to line the pockets of the Lochmueller Group, who stand to make around $2,000,000.00 in engineering fees if the project is approved. Your opinion does not matter, unless you agree with me... So, you see, your opinion does not matter. It does not matter what you have to say at a public meeting or whether it is in some “...lengthy, somewhat rambling posting on Facebook, which you can take for what theyre worth.” Your opinoin does not matter, unless you agree with me... To those who have spoken recently at public meetings and hearings, keep up the good work! Continue efforts to be heard! Continue efforts to hold them accountable! One way to truly voice your opinion, it seems, is to vote! Send a clear and concise message to these elected officials who have a total disregard to your opinion. These people are elected to be your representative in government. Instead, these same people continually advocate for a society of sheep, whose opinons do not matter, unless you agree with them.
