Your Prayer Has Been Heard! This is the painful story of Zechariah and Elizabeth. Luke says both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lords commandments and regulations blamelessly. But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren; and they were both on in years. These fleeting thoughts may have passed through the mind of Zechariah on several occasions: Oh God why me, why can you not take this disgrace and shame away from me? It must have been worst with Elizabeth. Even the gospel writer says it with conviction that she was barren; unlike today that it may turn out that it is the man who may be sterile. Zechariah surely loved his wife, otherwise he could have bowed under family preasure to take another wife or is it because he was of the priestly family? Then came the day; the angel appeared before Zechariah with the blessed assurance: Do not be afraid, Zechariah, your prayer has been heard. Your wife will bear you a child... He wasnt an ordinary child. He had a mission to ...go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous - to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. (1:5-17) My friend you are having a situation that is your own barrenness. You may be tempted to cry out: Lord why me? Let me assure you that Christmas is Gods way of telling you:Cry no more, I have heard your prayer! Yes my friend this is your season to smile. Just shout Emmanuel! God bless you!
