Your Question: wat can i do to How can I be refreshed in the Holy Spirit and receive the gift of the Spirit again? The gift of the Holy Spirit is given to all Christians. At the time of conversion, all Christians are “sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14). We can not lose the Holy Spirit and the gift of the Spirit is not given again and again. However, we do not always sense the presence of the Holy Spirit in the same way. Although God never leaves us (Matt 28:20), we sometimes wander away from God through our own sin. Also, God will sometimes give us a greater sense of His presence with us. How do we experience this refreshing presence of God’s Holy Spirit? While we may feel that it is the Spirit that we seek, the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit’s job is to bring us to Christ, and into deep fellowship with him. The primary work of the Spirit is highlighted in John 16:13, “He will take what is mine and declare it to you.” The refreshment that the Spirit brings is the refreshment of knowing Christ. This is the joy that the Apostle Paul talks about when he says, “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.” (Philippians 3:7-12) Therefore, if it is joy and refreshment in God that we seek, let us seek Christ. Read the Bible. Read the stories of Jesus: Who is He? What did He do? What is He doing now? What are his promises? What is our present and future hope in Christ? Read. Meditate. Pray. Listen to the Gospel proclaim at church, and discussed in fellowship with other Christians. Seek Christ on your own. Seek Christ in community. When you seek Christ, you will experience the refreshment and joy that the Holy Spirit brings as He leads you into deeper fellowship with the Son.
