Your Southcentral Regional Fishing and Boating Report for This Week: Fly Fishing has slowed down on the creeks in the Southcentral region. Many anglers are enjoying the warmth inside tying flies for next year. Other anglers are gearing up and hoping for the ice to form on the lakes across the region, so they can head out and jig for some nice crappie. Winter stocking is still taking place across the state. For more information, check out the stocking schedule at: fishandboat/stocked.htm. Juniata County- Some nice Smallmouth Bass are still being caught on the Juniata River. Anglers are reminded that “Catch and Release Only” area is below the Route 25 bridge (Port Royal) down to the mouth of the Susquehanna River. Perry County- A few Walleyes are being caught in the Juniata River. Shallow diving lures or jigs tipped with larger minnows (or shiners) will also work. York County- Despite the colder weather, Walleye fishing is productive on the Susquehanna River. Jigs with minnows or twister tails of bright colors are working well. Additionally, Channel and Flathead Catfish are still being caught on worms and chicken livers. Reminder – The 2015 Fishing License went on sale on December 1. If you are considering purchasing a Multi-year License, special discounts will be offered only during this month. Boaters: Remember the 1-10-1 rule- If you fall overboard, remember the “1-10-1” rule. After the initial shock of falling in wears off, you will experience about one minute of deep and uncontrolled breathing before your blood circulation is altered. Staying calm will be easier if you’re wearing a life jacket because it will keep your head above the water line and help you avoid breathing in mouthfuls of water. The 10 minutes after falling into cold water are crucial to survival; and the last part of the “1-10-1” rule refers to a person’s level of consciousness after being in cold water for one hour.
