Your Twin Tiers Forecast ...East coast storm likely... local effects tricky (see discussion below)... ...Travel troubles possible... Monday Night: Mostly cloudy and cold. Chance for some light snow late. There could be some minor accumulations of 1 to possibly 2 inches in spots. Breezy. Wind chills in the teens. Low 23 Tuesday: Cloudy with snow showers or flurries during the morning, then light snow developing during the afternoon. Breezy. Snow could accumulate to 1-2 inches by 7pm. High 36 Tuesday Night: Cloudy with snow changing to sleet and freezing rain, then becoming all rain around 1am. Anticipated icing will be a tenth of an inch or less for most, but could approach a quarter inch north and west of Binghamton. Low 34 Wednesday: Cloudy with rain during the morning, then changing back to snow during the afternoon and turning colder. Breezy. Snow accumulations of 1-3 inches from about 3pm through 9pm. High 38 Wednesday Night: Snow showers with perhaps an inch or so of accumulation. Turning colder. Breezy. Low 20 Thanksgiving Day: Mostly cloudy with a chance for lake effect snow showers. Windy gusts to 25mph. High 27 Black Friday: Partly sunny and quite cold. Perhaps a few flakes. High 30, Low 16 Saturday: Partly cloudy. High 35, Low 19 Sunday: Partly cloudy. High 42, Low 28 Monday: Cloudy with a chance for rain or snow. High 44, Low 31 Long Range Weather Outlook: East coast storm discussion: Confidence is only moderate regarding details, but a high confidence that a storm will effect the area Tuesday into Wednesday. What great timing for travel plans!!! Heres how I see it... Models have come into better agreement regarding the storm track. However, I would like to remind you that any small change with this storm could lead to big differences in precipitation types and amounts of precipitation. We should see precipitation breaking out Tuesday afternoon in the form of snow. The atmosphere will warm and change that snow to sleet, freezing rain, and rain by about 7-8pm Tuesday evening. Before the changeover, we should be able to pick up 1-2 inches of snow. Mixed precipitation should occur for a few hours, but I anticipate any icing to be around a tenth of an inch for most with up to a quarter inch north and west of Binghamton. The mixed precipitation should change to rain by 1-2am Wednesday morning, and we should stay in the warm sector through midday Wednesday. So rain will be the predominant precipitation type through midday Wednesday. Models indicate that there may be a slight lull in the action Wednesday morning. The cold air begins to wrap around Wednesday afternoon and that will change the rain back to snow. Snow could accumulate to 1-3 inches by Wednesday evening. This could obviously cause some travel problems and slick roads are a possibility. Winds change to a northwesterly direction, so some lake enhanced snow will be possible Wednesday night into Thanksgiving Day... accumulations also possible in parts of the area, depending on exact wind direction. Please note that accumulations of snow in western NY and parts of the North Country could exceed 6 inches and could be upwards of a foot. Thanksgiving day and beyond: Temperatures will remain cold, with highs staying in the 30s for much of the week. We will also have a few scattered snow showers, but should be storm free from Thanksgiving Day on.
