Your Weekend National Weather Forecast Warm but sunny weather will be on the weather menu for much of the eastern U.S. this weekend, with a few areas of unsettled weather in the mix as well. Today: A front stuck along the Gulf Coast will start the weekend off on a stormy note from parts of Texas into the Southeast U.S. Not only will umbrellas be a necessity today, but some of the downpours will create flash flooding after being stuck in a recent rainy pattern. At the same time, the summer monsoon will rev into a full throttle from the Desert Southwest into the Rocky Front Range and Montana High Plains today. Downpours and thunderstorms will become more numerous in the afternoon and evening, some of which could be particularly heavy; a few storms could also roam the Dakotas, Minnesota, and parts of western Wisconsin. Meanwhile, those looking for plenty of late-August sunshine and comfortable temperatures will find just that from the Middle Mississippi Valley into the Mid-Atlantic and New England. Even California residents will see breaks of sunshine today. The Northwest, Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic will be the spots to be, with temperatures only climbing into the 60s and 70s. Widespread 80s and even a few 90s will be found across the Plains and Southeast, with triple-digits blanketing the Desert Southwest. Sunday: In large part, Sunday will be a carbon copy of Saturday. The stationary front will slowly weaken along the Gulf Coast, producing a few more showers and storms from Texas to Florida. Tropical moisture will start to move northward into the Desert Southwest, strengthening the monsoonal flow. Heavy rain will batter the lower Colorado Valley, as well as greater Phoenix, causing flash flooding. Meanwhile, a disturbance moving along the Canadian border will produce a few morning showers and thunderstorms from North Dakota to Wisconsin and the Michigan Upper Peninsula. Otherwise, sunshine will prevail from California to New England. The heat will be on across the central U.S., with plenty of 80s and 90s expected from Texas and the Gulf Coast to the Dakotas. Cool 70s and lower 80s will remain along the East Coast, with 60s in the Northwest. Upper 80s to lower 90s will be the limit in the West, with just a few upper 90s will be found in the lower desert Southwest. -Kevin 131 #mtwp
