Your cellphone is not working, your landline is down, no internet, the power is out and you are a long way to get help if you have an emergency. What then? WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS...AMATEUR RADIO! That is right ham radio has come to the rescue many times in emergencies. All you need is an Amateur Radio License and a simple inexpensive ham radio ($30 about) and you can call for help. Last year our Ham Radio Club classes had 14 people get their ham radio license. We are starting up a new class for the Winter/Spring 2015. Classes are free and open to all. Saturday Jan. 10th Noon-2pm will be an Introduction to the Hobby of Amateur Radio. Everything you need to know about how to become a ham. Classes will be held the First Tuesday 5:30-6pm beginning in Feb. and the 2nd Saturday of the month Noon-2pm in the conference room at the Homer Public Library. Door prizes will be given away along with an informational packet and refreshments. The hobby isnt just for old guys! nor is it an expensive hobby. Men, women, kids, and people with disabilities can enjoy this hobby and get started with a radio for under $30. It is a valuable skill to have as well as a fun and exciting hobby of talking around the world. This session we are offering a chance to win a starter handheld amateur radios!
