Your help is needed. The Isolated Patients Travel Accommodation Assistance scheme (rebate rate) is no longer an adequate amount for rural patients to pay for accommodation in Sydney. Accommodation was previously available at an affordable rate at the hospitals where the patients were accessing treatment. These accommodation houses are closing down and patients are having to pay the full tourist rate. Many patients are not travelling to the city from the country for treatment because it is too expensive. This is unacceptible and the government needs to provide a better service for the people who live in the country that are forced to travel hundreds of kms for treatment for sometimes terminal diseases.
