Your input would be appreciated: While I understand the historical context behind altering our natural beauty toward conventional beauty, the truth is that black women, and women in general, have become victims of unrealistic expectations of beauty, many of these standards remaining unattainable NATURALLY by MOST black women--white skin, blue eyes, emaciated frames and blonde hair. I often wonder why so many Black women buy into this narrow, tragic notion of beautiful, which generally sets our daughters up for lives of insecurity, self-doubt and all the other buzz-word conditions associated with the yellow brick road journey toward conventional beauty. Ive seen girls as young as 6 with weaves to their waists and bright read lipstick across their pure lips; Ive personally encouraged our baby girls with natural hair to believe that they are beautiful despite the firestorm of negative images of their TYPE they encounter hourly. And I am personally DISGUSTED with skin bleachers who do so for the purpose of whiteniciousness! So, as we all bear witness to this undeniable paradigm shift, where women are redefining beauty for themselves, how will this impact our little black and brown princesses on their road to rediscover their natural?? Will limbo-dangling NEGROS that hate themselves continue to tease our babies as they did Blu Ivy and Gabby Douglas ??? Will our babies love their chunky bodies? Their lovely moles? Their tight curls and their beefy noses? Or will thy hit the MAC counter to fix what aint broken?? What us gon do to support the paradigm shift? What we gon teach our sons? Thoughts??
