Your invitation to the 34th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Celebration on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland: Dear Friend, Please accept this letter as an invitation to attend the 34th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Celebration on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. Hundreds of people from around the state will gather to make this one of the largest and most diverse events held throughout New England to honor Dr. King. Our theme for all of our 2015 Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Observance events is We Who Believe in Freedom Cannot Wait. It is taken from the lyrics of Ellas Song written by Bernice Johnson Reagon of Sweet Honey in the Rock who wrote the song about famed civil and human rights leader Ella Baker. It seems particularly appropriate to recall these words as our nation grapples with issues of race, justice and the meaning of democracy. We are particularly excited about this year’s program as it gives us the opportunity to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. We hope that you will consider joining us at this critical time in our history. To attend the breakfast, please visit portlandmlk.brownpapertickets/ for ticket purchase. The branch is also pleased to once again sponsor our popular music and gospel concert at Merrill Auditorium. This year will feature freedom, roots and gospel songs with special performances by award-winning singer songwriter Samuel James and the legendary Green Memorial AME Zion Church Choir. No doubt, this will be an inspiring and fun-filled family engagement not to be missed! Tickets for this event can be purchased at https://tickets.porttix/public/ Over the past several years, your support for our branch has contributed significantly in bringing people together from across the political, social and economic spectrum. Because of you, our belief in Dr. Kings beloved community and commitment to achieving the full and equal rights for all will never waver. Please contact the NAACP at 207-553-5851 or email [email protected] if we can provide more information. We hope that you will join us! Yours in peace, NAACP Portland Branch [email protected] naacp.me
