Your support will be highly appreciated... Here’s one of “The Unsung Hero” from Nagarahole Tiger Reserve, his name is Madhu in his mid 30’s. Madhu a forest watcher was on his routine patrol on foot along with few other watchers. It was a small group of three watchers who were returning from the anti-poaching camp; as usual they were unarmed and were walking on the manmade tracks in the dense forest of Nagaraghole. Completely unaware about a mother Sloth Bear nursing her cub in the bushes, Madhu was leading from front and was walking ahead of the other two watchers, the mother sloth bear hiding in the bushes sensed threat to her cub. Little did Madhu know what was coming in, the sloth bear stood tall right in front of him with a loud roar, Madhu had no time to react. He was brutally attacked by the bear that slapped him and tore apart his face and eye. Madhu fell unconscious in a pool of blood, the other two watchers were helpless and all they could do is screaming on top of their voice and fortunately the bear ran away into the bushes. But enough damage was done by now; somehow Madhu was carried towards the Nagarahole reception and then taken to a small govt hospital to nearest town Kutta. But the doctors sensed the severity in his injury and did whatever they can and asked the team to shift him to Mysore. Later Madhu was treated in Apollo Hospital at Mysore; it took him around almost 4-5 months months to recover. However he had lost his right eye and had damaged right portion of his face that included his right ear, no senses on right portion of his faces. Today his vision is through one eye, hearing capability with one ear and unfortunately chewing only by one side. This was one of the biggest disasters in his life, as there were immediate dependents on him, his wife and two sons aged 3 and 7 years old. Thanks to forest dept for taking caring of his hospital expenses and ensuring he had a job, contract though. Despite his interest in working as a forest watcher, his original role, he was assigned a job of care taker of parking bay of tourist’s cars. Being a contractor labor he has no facility of medical insurance nor does he have any other benefits that a forest staff had. I visited him at his small hut, life isn’t easy for him with a family and growing up children, yet he has no regrets about whatever has happened. Honestly he doesn’t expect anything from anyone but I felt we all can support him with small contribution as per your individual capacity. Friends if anyone one is willing to contribute please inbox me your email id, I am trying to get his bank account details that I will share it as soon as possible, so that you can transfer your contributions directly to Madhu.
