Your top 6 game changing emcees or groups of all time; meaning they came in and changed the whole game up, had impact, affected others flows. I didnt include our forefathers/ mothers because it is always that I honor and cherish them; we wouldnt be here without them. This is also in no order, just in the order I typed them in. 1. Sugar Hill Gang-this could be controversial but that put aside, this group and label brought it to radio and to the west. I first heard Rappers Delight on stations that generally only played rock. 2. Rakim-sometimes someone comes along who is so different and awesome that others flows and music change with the time. Rakim ushered in that time and influenced a generation. 3. LL Cool J-despite your feelings after I Need Love, Cool J was another one that impacted others. Even the west, go back and listen pre-NWA how rappers had that yelling style. Stetsasonic, Beastie Boys, etc. I realize that was the style but he was also lyrically dope. 4. RunDMC-from Sucker MCs to Walk This Way, they came in hard and took the soundtrack of Hip Hop to MTV and the masses. For better or worse, it changed and became loved by all nations and colors of skin. 5. NWA-call them the bringers of gangster rap if you will but they brought it in way that represented life around them to the world over beats that had such an impact because they were so hard no one could help but listen, east, west, worldwide. 6. Public Enemy-I was going to make a top 5 but could not forget PE (and again, this is not in any order). The beats, the rhymes, the Flavor f..kin Flave! Dope just to listen to but lyrically impressive enough to make all colors of skin wonder at and respect what was being said. Hardcore, knowledge of self, no sellout and yet crossover, multi-racial impact. Thats the power of Hip Hop and PE.
