Your voice counts Goal: Arrest and punish officer for murdering a litter of kittens in front of young children An Ohio policeman, Barry Accorti, recently shot a litter of kittens to death—in front of a group of screaming children. The police department did not take any action against the officer, however, and the officer is still employed by the department and is not facing any punishment for his murderous act. Accorti was responding to a call describing a litter of kittens that were living in a woodpile belonging to a home in North Ridgeville. The homeowners told the officer that the kittens were feral, and were bringing fleas and leaving dead birds, mice, and such in their backyard. Accorti arrived at the property about twenty minutes later and briefly told the homeowners’ horrified children, between 5 months and 7 years old, that the kittens were going to “kitty heaven.” He then got a gun from his vehicle and shot the kittens to death. The homeowners were incredibly distressed, as they were under the impression that the kittens would be taken to a shelter to be adopted. Accorti told the homeowner that there was no room at any of the shelters. The dead kittens were left lying in their blood only a few feet from the home. Such behavior is disgusting and inexcusable. Animals should only be subject to weaponry if they are attacking the officer to the point of severe injury, or if the animal is in extreme pain and suffering. All animals deserve to be taken to a shelter, and should be euthanized by injection if they are ill and unable to be treated, or unable to be adopted. This officer should be fired and charged with animal cruelty. However, his boss cleared him concluding that his actions were appropriate, taking no action against him. Demand that Accorti be fired and charged with animal cruelty, and that disciplinary action be taken against police chief Mike Freeman as well, for allowing such horrific behavior to occur.
