Youre cute to be dark skinned. Social worker Verline Gaddis opened the panel discussion with more than 60 students with a question: How do you feel when someone says Youre cute to be dark skinned? This is the first of five videos we will share this week from the Leading Ladies panel discussion. With guidance from Associate Principal MaLinda Majoch, Ms. Gaddis, and a pair of Shepard graduates, students speak from the heart on a wide variety of topics affecting African-American teenage girls. They provide much material to contemplate. We hope youll take a few minutes to listen and see how they discuss and debate issues with enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and honesty. In this first video, they also discuss the topic of talking white.
