Yousef Casewit is a sixth-year PhD Candidate in Islamic Studies at Yale University’s Religious Studies Department, and a part-time lecturer at Fairfield University’s Department of Religion. Born in Egypt and raised in Morocco, he is fluent in Arabic, French and Spanish. He received his Bachelors of Arts from George Washington University in 2006 with a focus on Religion. Yousef has traveled throughout the Islamic world, and has studied Islamic law with Muslim scholars in Morocco, Syria, and Mauritania. His research centers on the medieval intellectual and juridical history of North Africa and Muslim Spain. He has several publications to his credit, the most recent being a two-volume critical edition of Ibn Barrajān’s Sufi exegesis which is due to be published by Brill this year.
