Youth Choir - Service Learning opportunity! The Eau Claire YMCA is in the process of putting together a youth choir program for 2015. We are very excited about the prospect of this new program! Although it is still very much in the planning stages, this is the basic format that we are moving toward: •The program will have a vast but set age limit (ages 8-14? Maybe two groups to break up the ages?) •The participants will pay a fee to be in the program for each season (possibly three sessions – spring, summer, and fall) •The program will be open to both Y members and non-members and financial assistance would be available when needed •The program will be open enrollment – participants may join in at any time •The program will not use an audition process – all children who sign up will be eligible to join in and participate (no one is cut) •The program will meet on a regular schedule, TBD •The participants will learn basic music lessons and singing techniques as well as a number of song selections •The program will culminate in a concert open to the public In order for this program to get on its feet and succeed, we are seeking a choral director to be in charge of this program. The choral director will schedule all meetings/rehearsals, select the songs to be learned, teach the music, and instruct the participants. The choral director will also be responsible for accompanying all rehearsals or helping to find a suitable accompanist. We believe that this program presents a great opportunity for a music or music education major to get experience with a youth choir group! This position would be a great fit for such a major looking for experience or internship or service learning credit. We are hoping that the right director will be able to assist with the formation of the program’s groundwork and help us to build a fantastic program for the kids in our community!
