Youth Cricket reports The U10s were in action on Thursday versus Warwick and narrowly edged a victory. Struggling early in the innings far below their 200 run starting point, Kenilworth managed to put bat on ball towards the end of their overs with Will Machin, Simon Reading and Josh Beeson joint top scorers with 5 runs each. When it came to Kenilworths turn to field, Alex Summers kept wicket well. Tyler East and Harry Thornton bowled tightly but Warwick needed just nine to win in the remaining three overs when Jack Pegler took the wicket of the game. Warwicks batsman creamed the ball through mid wicket off Jacks bowling for what looked a certain four but Kenilworths Will Machin took a low catch leaving Warwick with 14 required. Six further runs were added but Kenilworths James Sparks made sure of victory in the next over with a wicket on his last delivery. Kenilworth won by 12 runs. The U11s won their semi-final match on Sunday at Ragley Hall and are in the Cotswold Hills League U11 final next Sunday. Batting first Harry Dumper and Theo Mannion put on a stand of 20 without losing a wicket. Next in Cameron Holden and Alfie Porter went six runs better and had a stand of 26 undefeated. James Mackenzie chipped in with 8 runs and captain Fred Barry 11 runs. In a rare occurrence, all Kenilworths batsmen finished in the positives and their innings closed on 273-2. Defending that total, Alfie Porter opened the bowling and set the tone for the fielding side, opening with a wicket maiden and taking 3 wickets in all. George Baines also bowled well for Kenilworth taking two wickets in consecutive balls. Jack Williams worked hard behind the stumps to keep extras down despite some wide deliveries coming his way and Alcester & Ragley closed on 216-8. Meanwhile Kenilworths U9s and U8s participated in the district windball festival. The U9s battled hard but unfortunately lost all their games. In their third game Thomas Best, Tom Hollis, Daniel Atkinson and William Hamilton called and ran well between the wickets moving the score along when they were at the crease and in the fourth and final game James Edney found the middle of the bat with some strong shots back over the bowlers head. In a reversal of fortune Kenilworths U8s won their mini-tournament with some hard hitting from Ellis Green, athletical fielding from Keegan Harding and Luke Cassidy combined with some super bowling from Bryn Reed, James Hughes and James Vaughan. Luca Chapman got his reward for his effort throughout the morning in the final game when his hostile bowling proved too much for the opposition batsman taking a wicket from a yorker.
