Youth Haiti trip day 3: Today was a rough one... We started - TopicsExpress

Youth Haiti trip day 3: Today was a rough one... We started out by going to the Haitian mall, ie the market. This cannot be expressed in words. It was a complete eye opener for the kids. Huge chunks of meat just hanging for sale. Goods on the ground in piles for sale. It was also the first time weve really been out and about walking since we got here. Crowds formed around us and a lot of the kids said it was very weird and they felt like celebritys. Then it was time for the hike to Plaine Marie. I stayed home with Alecia (fever) Katy (sprained ankle) and Leah (bad back). About 3 hours after the group left the truck pulled back in. My immediate thoughts whos hurt? It was Velix bringing Deven and Keegan back. They were physically unable to make the long hike. Deven was fine but Keegan ended up in bed without getting up for 7 hours. I woke him up about every 30 minutes and made him drink. When he got up at about 9, he felt much much better. Thank you God!!! During this Alecia was fighting a fever. Her fever topped out at 102.8. That was a bit nerve racking! Were now on a meds schedule until its gone!! We have to thank God again. At bedtime her fever was down to 100.4. Prayer for healing is a wonderful thing so keep it up my prayer warriors!! Katy Leah and I worked on separating out items for the vbs later in the week. At about 6:15 we got a call from Velix that they were done painting the school and had enough time to make it home. The original plan was to stay the night at the school. The team got home about 8:30. Man were they smelly!!! Lol. These guys rocked!!! They hiked the most treacherous hike, painted a school inside and out, dealt with a down pour, and hiked back, all in 9.5 hours!!! Go team=0). A few of the kids were only hanging on by a toe nail by the time they got here, but they all did it and are doing well. Everyone is extremely tired and sore. Im very proud of these guys for pushing themselves and each other. It is something that they should look back on and say if I can do that, I can do....! Needless to say, the lights out at 10 was no problem tonight. If they hadnt already put themselves to bed, they were willing to go when told. Tomorrow they will get to sleep in as we are now ahead of schedule. We will be preparing for the vbs on Friday and Saturday. Continue to keep us in your prayers. Especially everyone who made the hike as they will probably be very sore the next couple days.
