Youth Olympic Qualifiers - Tadvis silver-lining saved India on a dry day! Bangkok, 22 May 2014: Distance runner Kisan Tadvi was the lone medalist for India on the second and concluding day of Asian Area Qualifiers for the Youth Olympic Games at Thammasat Stadium here on Thursday. The athlete from Maharashtra settled with a silver medal in 3,000m race clocking 8 minutes 27.87 seconds behind Bahrains Abdo Abdi Ibrahim (8:26.39). Chinas Liu Hongliang was third in 8:33.46. It may be noted that Indias Indrajeet Patel came first in the area qualification at Singapore four years ago with a noteworthy 8:16.26. The Indians had a disappointing start in the morning session with race walker K.T. Neena (26:11.78) and hammer thrower Pradeep Kumar (61.76m) finished fourth in their respective events. In the afternoon, Arshdeep Singh finished sixth in 800m (1:57.19) and Aftab Alam seventh in 400m hurdles (53.99 secs) to complete their affair with Kisans lone medal of the day. Asian powerhouse China displayed its prowess in athletics on a second continuous day with Xu Xinying set out the 3 kg ball and chain to an incredible 65.13m in girls hammer throw event. Athletes selected from the two-day area trials will be eligible to take part in the 2nd Youth Olympic Games to be held at Nanjing, China, in August this year.
