The tour, according to Minister Alieu Kebba Jammeh, is part of his Ministry’s intensive campaign to encourage young people to take part meaningfully in the most productive sector of the economy - agriculture. He informed that the tour party will also include members of the Youth in Agriculture and Fishing Initiative (YAFI), which had earlier this year travelled the length and breadth of the country in their bid to persuade the youths to venture into fishing and agricultural ventures. “During the tour, the delegation will visit youth farms across the country, present cheques of D500,000 to URR, CRR, LRR, and NBR respectively for sports infrastructure development. We will also present new computers to our regional offices donated by UNFPA. We will also be visiting ongoing renovation works at the Ministry’s regional offices and residences,” Minister Jammeh told the Daily Observer ahead of his tour. In a separate but similar development, Minister Jammeh, accompanied by the deputy governor of West Coast Region (WCR), Bakary Jaiteh alias ‘Bakso’ and other officials of his Ministry, Saturday visited youth farms in Kombo South and Kombo Central. The minister praised the efforts of the youths of the region, informing the Daily Observer they have and will always continue to champion the president’s call for Gambians to go back to the land. He observed that the youths of the region continue to cultivate varieties of crops to support the idea of ‘grow what you eat and eat what you grow’. Author: Alieu Ceesay
